Our Checkmate Training is a 3-hour interactive workshop designed to equip participants with the skills to:
✔ Recognize signs of distress in others.
✔ Check in with confidence and start a supportive conversation.
✔ Keep someone safely connected by guiding them to appropriate support.
Checkmate – A Connector Helper Role
As a Connector Helper, you will learn how to identify distress, check in, assess wellbeing needs, coping levels, and link individuals to further help, including Safety Aiders, mental health professionals, or community support systems.
Connector Helpers serve as the first line of support in the Life-Supporting Workplace, school, organisation, sports team or family, ensuring those in distress don’t go unnoticed and receive the help they need.
A Culturally Grounded Approach
Our training is deeply connected to Te Ao Māori frameworks such as Te Whare Tapa Whā, recognizing that wellbeing is holistic
Who Should Attend?
This training is ideal for anyone, 16 years and over, who wants to be prepared to check in on someone in distress and know how to support them, including:
