Our Suicide First Aid (SFA) Training is a comprehensive 6-hour course designed to equip participants with the skills and confidence to effectively respond to individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. This training is suitable for anyone interested in enhancing their ability to support others in crisis, including community members, educators, healthcare professionals, and organizational leaders.
Key Learning Outcomes:
-
Recognise and Respond to Signs of Suicidal Ideation: Identify indicators that someone may be considering suicide.
-
Engage in Safe and Effective Conversations: Develop the ability to approach and discuss suicidal thoughts with individuals in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner, whilst helping them explore and identify options that will help keep them alive and safe.
-
Develop Personalized Safety Plans: Learn to collaboratively create tailored safety plans that address immediate risks and outline steps to ensure the individual's holistic safety.
-
Understand Organisational Response Strategies: Gain insights into establishing and maintaining safe and supportive environments within organizations to effectively address and prevent suicide within a life-supporting network of support.
DESIGNED FOR ANYONE
Just like physical first aid, Suicide First Aid (SFA) is an immediate, short-term intervention designed to help someone in crisis find that spark of life—just enough to connect them to ongoing support and preserve their safety.
While 16+ is the recommended age, participation depends on emotional maturity and readiness. In workplaces, schools, and communities where younger individuals may step into these conversations, they should be part of a Life-Supporting Network with a clear handover process to ensure safe and appropriate next steps.
OPEN SAFE CONVERSATIONS HELP
Most people thinking of suicide never get an opportunity to have an open conversation, and often make the biggest decision of their life without first talking through what their intentions are and what options they actually have.
